The Risks and Threats of Nature-based Climate Solutions

The Risks and Threats of Nature-based Climate Solutions

Time: November 15 from 15:35-16:50
Location: Indigenous Peoples Pavilion, Blue Zone, UNFCCC COP30

Nature-based Climate Solutions (NbCS) are being pushed forward in Indigenous territories without free, prior and informed consent (FPIC), and in ways that echo colonial patterns of extraction and control. NbCS cannot succeed as a solution to the climate crisis without addressing structural injustices and the legacy of colonization in which it is built upon. This panel will explore the risks and threats of Nature-based Climate Solutions (NbCS) in so-called Canada by outlining the lived-experiences, critiques and strategies of Indigenous Peoples and communities.
